[cobirds] Unexpected Day Off

Greetings All,

I unexpectedly was not needed at Estes Park clinic today (actually, too many providers in, so no rooms available for seeing patients).

Estes Park (Lake Area) was dull bird wise, but was impressive with the trumpeting bull Elk with some nice rack-clashes.

Ish and Union Reservoirs are filling up with grebes, and Union has a fair number > 300 Franklin Gulls plus ongoing large number of Great Egrets (36). Yesterday, there was a Semi Plover and a few peeps at the NW corner, but not this morning. Windsor Lake (not Reservoir) also had hundreds of Western Grebes. So, these places must have fish, and will likely be attractive as loons and scoters arrive.

I couldn't find many landbirds. It seemed awfully slow out there. The most interesting find were 2 Montane WB Nuthatches at Kodak SWA just sw of Greeley. These birds (identified by call; still testing field marks) seem to be appearing all over the plains, just like RB Nuthatches (o, yea, one of those, too).
