[cobirds] CBR, El Paso Co, Wednesday - Black-throated Blue WarblerS, Scarlet Tanager

Hi COBirders,

full report to follow.

It was DEAD this morning at Chico Basin Ranch. Only one banded thrush between 7:00 and 9:00!  Then a new wave arrived about 9:30, and we caught and banded TWO Black-throated Blue Warblers (both hatch-year males. That was real fun (pics available soon), then another wave arrived about 11:00, with several Wilson's Warblers, MacGillivray's Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and a Scarlet Tanager, banded, our second this season.  This one was a hatch-year female (also, pics available soon).  I'm not sure if it is the same bird Bill Maynard saw yesterday, but probably it is.

Both of the BTB Warblers were well stocked with fat, so they may depart tonight. But who knows?

Only about 18 birds banded today, and maybe another dozen recaptures from the past few days, but they were pretty good birds!

I would say "never a dull moment...", but actually there were a lot of dull moments until the warblers arrived today!

Good birding,
