Hello, Birders.
I just saw and heard a Field Sparrow (presumably of the expected western subspecies Arenacea) at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County. The bird was with many Chipping Sparrows and a few Orange-crowned Warblers at the southeast corner of the preserve (i.e., near the north shore of Waneka Lake). Last seen and heard at the "Native Area - Do Not Enter" sign. (I figure Hannah and Andrew, natives, can go in there; but Kei and I, immigrants, cannot??) Lots of birds, lots of activity, and lots of movement in there, so be patient.
I believe I audio-recorded the bird. But there were many murmurings, too, of Orange-crowned Warblers and Chipping Sparrows, so I'll have a fair bit of "noise" (ha) to dial through.
There were raptors out there, too: a columbarius Merlin resting in one of the dead trees, a juvenile Coopers with the biggest tail I've ever seen on a Coop, and a Turkey Vulture. Didn't see any of Scott Severs' Broad-wings, but hope springs--even on this very fall-like second full day of autumn--eternal.
