full report to follow,
Yup, we did it again. Another real slow day at Chico Basin Ranch, then about 11am we banded a Philadelphia Vireo (hatch-year, sex unknown), and a Blackpoll Warbler (also hatch-year, sex unknown). Total new birds banded - about 14. Also several Hermit Thrush, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and Wilson's Warblers.
There were some other warblers around - not caught - including Yellow-rumped - (possibly Myrtle), and Townsend's. We think the Black-throated Blues are gone.
Even with the unsettled weather, we're not seeing "fallouts" or lots of birds at dawn, as much as "late arrivals", new birds coming in between 10:00 and 12:00. Weird.
Good birding,
