[cobirds] Greenlee Preserve & environs, Sunday, May 16

Hey, all.

I had a nice ramble about the "Greater Greenlee Ecosystem" (Greenlee Wildlife Preserve, Waneka Lake, Hecla Pond, Thomas Open Space, Anna's Farm), Boulder County, earlier today, Sunday, May 16. The birding just kept better and better as the cloud deck lowered in the afternoon and the mist and mizzle started to pick up.

Highlights among 73 species included dueling black-chinned hummingbirds, a high-flying sandhill crane (heading due south, go figure), 3 western wood-pewees, least, gray, and dusky flycatchers, a warbling vireo, a wildly declaiming gray catbird, flyover pine siskins, a lesser goldfinch, 3 each of clay-colored and Brewer sparrows, a common grackle with avian keratin disorder, a handsome male blackpoll warbler, and western tanagers going to town on the Smucker's® Natural Concord Grape Fruit Spread at the preserve feeders.
