[cobirds] Aurora Reservoir, Arapahoe County

I am following up from my swan report earlier today. I feel there were a Trumpeter Swan & 2 Tundra Swans. They stayed there about an hour. Going to my car, I saw them leaving.

The change of seasons is definitely being reflected at Aurora Reservoir today. Common Loon, Sandhill Cranes flyover, Snow Goose, Snow Goose x Canada Goose, 7 Greater White-fronted Geese, hundreds of geese & thousands of gulls!

[cobirds] Re: Gray Catbird, Denver County

We spotted a Catbird on the CBC last year in a count area on the north side of Boulder - in shrubs, can't recall what kind.  It was a surprise for us on that date (12/15/18) to be sure!

I have a late-to-leave Gray Catbird in my yard in east-central Denver, just off East Colfax about 4 miles from downtown. Definitely a new yard bird, and a surprise to see around here, even in an unseasonable snowstorm.
I didn't recognize it at first, puffed against the snow and wind. It was hunkered down with an American Robin and a couple of Euro Starlings in the blackthorn tree out my kitchen window on the side of the house.
It appeared to be eating some of the blackthorn berries (I've read these are considered bird food of last resort?). So were the robin and starlings.
The catbird has since flown back and forth to to lilac bushes in the backyard, where juncos, jays, chickadees and house finches are in abundance at the feeders this snowy day.

Re: [cobirds] Invited to another cobirds group

Check into it and see if the birding group works for you. Join or not. Its your choice .
Both birding groups have there good and bad images. And Eric is right its NOT cobirds.
Just my 2 cents .

Hi Ann,

I received that same email this morning, although you should note that the group referred to is actually cobirders@groups.io, NOT cobirds.

"CoBirders" is not, I repeat, NOT the same group as "CoBirds". It is not a Colorado Field Ornithologists-related group whatsoever.

I'll just leave it at that, for the sake of brevity and decorum.

Hi All,

I have an invite in my mailbox this morning from "Rebecca" to join the cobirds@groups.io Group

A quick search asking about groups.io shows it's a platform launched in 2014 and has received good reviews.

Did anyone else get this invite?  Are we moving to a new platform?  Or is this just another platform that is being tried out?

I'm not entirely sure if this is a legitimate invite.

I would appreciate any info.

Earlier this evening at sunset, there was a White-winged Scoter (young male, I think) among Western Grebes at Horseshoe Lake in Loveland, CO (Larimer County).

[cobirds] Rusty Blackbird, Larimer on 30October2019

In the general vicinity of North Poudre #3 Reservoir nw of Wellington there is a Rusty Blackbird.  It is in a flowing stream or irrigation ditch on the east side of Larimer County Road 11 north of Larimer 66 Road.  This is roughly the nw corner of Boxelder Reservoir #3 (also called Smith Res SWA).  Going n on CR11 from its intersection with 66 to the nw corner of the res you can park along CR11 by a green metal gate marked by a SWA sign that says "Foot Access Only".  From there, walk east a short ways on a dirt two-lane and check the trickle of unfrozen water north of the two-lane.  The blackbird was favoring a weir or little water drop area about 50 yards e of CR11 along with 3-4 snipe.  It is pretty wary and often flies with the snipe, which flush first.  With patience, it tend to keep coming back to the weir area.  It can looks quite different from one view to the next, depending mostly on the lighting, as the following pics illustrate.

[cobirds] Golden-crowned Sparrow, El Paso County

Hey all,

Jim Merritt and I just had an immature Golden-crowned Sparrow at his feeders about five minutes ago (10:15) today 10/30. One many of us predicted would be the next sparrow to show up at his setup. He is happy hosting birders and is located at 222 Crystal Valley Road.
