[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Chatfield Banding Station, 5/15/21

Today was a more typical spring morning, if coming about two weeks late.  Most common species were House Wrens and Yellow Warblers, including one banded in 2016 (our oldest so far this season).  The only oddity was the five Chipping Sparrows that we caught in the same net on the last run of the day.  (Our average caught per year over 14 years is two.)  Here's the breakdown of the 31 new birds caught today:

House Wren 7 new, 1 banded 2018
Gray Catbird 3
Yellow Warbler 7 new, 1 banded 2019, 1 banded 2016
Northern Waterthrush 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Spotted Towhee 2
Chipping Sparrow 5
Lincoln's Sparrow 2

We are open six days per week (closed Tuesdays) through May 30, weather permitting.  While some COVID related restrictions remain in place there are opportunities most mornings for the public to visit, but reservations are required. Visit https://denveraudubon.org/events/ for more information and to sign-up.  Because each hour-long session is limited to 10 people, we anticipate selling out most mornings, so register soon if you are interested.
