[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Barr Lake Station, 9/16/18

Some of you will remember how slow last fall's migration was; all of the Bird Conservancy banding stations experienced low numbers.  How much better is this year?  Well, we just finished the 3rd of our 7 weeks of banding, and yesterday we passed the total banded all last season.  

But even in a good year there are slow days, and this hot morning was one of them. Banded only 24 birds.  Highlight was a lovely female Tennessee Warbler:  

Dusky Flycatcher 1

Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 (FOS)

House Wren 2

Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1

Orange-crowned Warbler 1

Tennessee Warbler 1

Yellow Warbler 1

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 2

Common Yellowthroat 1

Wilson's Warbler 11

Lincoln's Sparrow 2

Remember we are closed tomorrow, Monday.  Then back in business Tuesday-Sunday, weather permitting, through October 14. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have birds back at the station by 7:15. We will close most days by about 11:30, earlier as long as this heat continues. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.
