Hi Colorado Birders,
I may have an opportunity to tack on some birding during a business trip to Grand Junction later this month and looking for any advice on finding Black Rosy-Finch or Sharp-tailed Grouse. I have searched ebird records and recent posts as a starting point, but would really appreciate any additional local knowledge that anyone may be willing to share. Here is what I have gleaned so far:
Black Rosy-Finch
-has not been reported in the vicinity of Grand Junction on ebird this year, but many sightings in previous years.
-Wildernest (Summit County) looks like a fairly reliable location with some recent sightings.
-Also some recent sightings near Telluride.
-Any reliable locations that are closer to Grand Junction?
Sharp-tailed Grouse
-Looks like Steamboat Springs (Routt) was a good place to look in previous years, but no reports from this year. Is it still worth a try?
-Pawnee National Grassland is probably farther than I am willing to go on this trip.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
Kind regards,
Tim Perkins
