Dear Cobirders,
I was graced by the presence of a flock of 140 Rosy Finches, including all three species, this afternoon at the Fawn Brook Inn. They arrived at about 2:40, circling many times before landing in the aspen, visited the feeders for about ten minutes, and then were gone.
I am grateful to Nick Komar for his report of an afternoon appearance of the rosy finch flock a few days ago, giving me a few ounces of confidence that a 60 mi roundtrip bike ride from Boulder might not be entirely futile,
and especially to the two kind birders from FT Collins in the Prius who, after spending 2 hrs waiting for the finches without luck, made the sacrificial offering to the birding gods inviting the finches to the Inn by giving up and departing. ;-) I am sorry you missed them, and will happily return the favor next time!
Good birding,
Thomas Heinrich
