[cobirds] Upland Sandpiper, Lafayette, Boulder County, right now (and field trip announcement)

Hello, everybody.

Here I sit in the rainy backyard, enjoying the slow singing of snowy tree crickets, Oecanthus fultoni. A couple minutes ago, I heard the unmistakable liquid flight call (quiddy quit!) of an upland sandpiper on nocturnal migration. If you've got nothing better to do (come on, it's 4 in the morning), go out in the rain and listen. I bet others are on the move.

Oh, and this provides me the opportunity to announce that we will be doing our usual, annual meteors-and-migrants field trip during the wee hours of the morning next Friday, Aug. 12. Our undisclosed location is to be somewhere in eastern Boulder County. Will have a more detailed announcement shortly. But, for now, if you want to reserve a spot, please contact me offline (tfloyd "at" aba "dot" org), and I'll make sure you're included in the shenanigans.
