I started banding at CSR this week, mostly catching local breeding birds. Today, though, I saw started seeing some migrants:
a female Calliope Hummingbird (netted, not banded), a Red-eyed Vireo (only my second at CSR), and a Northern Waterthrush.
Also of note, I'm catching more Black-headed Grosbeaks and Lazuli Buntings than in previous years, and seeing them in the trees as well, even unbanded ones!
I'm looking forward to full-moon watching for migrants next week, too.
more soon,
