Re: [cobirds] Bird Obit & future

Thanks, Hugh, and this is always a good opportunity to educate/remind people about putting decals in windows that present a risk to birds.  They are available from any of the stores that sell products for wild birds, and might be available (or maybe should be) from the Museum gift shop.

The Denver Museum of Nature &  Science invites us to contribute dead birds to its Collections  Dept. Contact Jeff Stephenson at (I think - I'm away from  my address book) 303 370 8319 or Garth Spellman (303) 370-6469, garth.spellman@dmns.org.
Again,

Put the bird in a ziplock bag & seal it. Make a label about ID, location, date, and any other details (cause of death), and put that and the first zip lock bag into another ziplock bag. Then pop them into a freezer until you can get the specimen to the Museum. They will prepare the skin, take DNA samples and other samples, and put your find to good use.

Sad morning. Our neighbor called us after a female Yellow Warbler ran into
their window. We rushed over to see if it was okay but unfortunately she
died in our hands. She was un-banded. My daughter had read an article
about bird obituaries but the only one we could find was one for New York.
Is there a Colorado database for dead birds?

Thank you for your help.
