[cobirds] Unexpected Woodpecker Show at Heil Valley Ranch

My wife and I headed for Heil Valley Ranch this morning and nearly changed our location due to the hordes of cyclists streaming down Neva Road. Boy are we glad we stayed the course! We'd gone about a half mile down the entrance road,[past all the old sheds], when we spotted a Lewis's Woodpecker crossing in front of us. It perched atop a Ponderosa just as another came into view. A third Lewis's followed within several minutes, these were both juveniles. As we walked along the road, getting better vantage points, Sally suddenly yelled "Red Headed". We watched not one, but two Red Headed Woodpeckers fly to different perches. Now all the birds were on the same side of road, all seen within about 15 minutes  and within 50 yards. Quite the show.        Carl Starace  and Sally Swain,  Niwot
