[cobirds] Merlin, Jokester. (Arapahoe and Custer counties, but anywhere)

By now, we've all experienced Merlin's little jokes -- the birds that couldn't possibly be where you are at the moment.  But these are my recent favorites:

I was standing underneath a nest of Downy Woodpeckers, listening to the racket the young were making.  Wondering how good Merlin was at young birds, I switched it on.  Immediately it said "BALD EAGLE!!"  Amusing to imagine a Bald Eagle inside a 6" diameter Aspen tree -- not to mention how it got through that 1" hole.

Yesterday morning up in the Sangre de Cristos, on the edge between spruce-fir forest and Pine and open rangeland, Merlin told me it was hearing a Common Loon.  Pretty unlikely to have a calling Loon in September in the forest.  Three times it told me it was a Loon.   Ah, I know!  It was a coyote calling.  (And doing a pretty good Loon imitation too!)

And then in the same place, Merlin said it heard a Long-eared Owl.   Now I have seen one up there, but just once years ago, so I tried to track it down.   Finally found it.   A cow.
