[cobirds] COBC report: The Gilpin Goshawks

The Gilpin Goshawks (Luke Pheneger, Cole Sage, and I) started our day in Gilpin County with an American Robin at 6:20 AM and finished with a Great Horned Owl at 7:30 PM. We dug 62 species out of the high mountains, 122% of par, which was 51.

Our best birds were a pair of White-winged Crossbills on the Rollins Pass road and a Northern Pygmy-Owl along Smith Hill Road. Other great finds for Gilpin County included Wild Turkey, Band-tailed Pigeon, and Townsend's Warbler. Sage Thrashers and Lark Sparrows were both found at multiple sites. We didn't have much in the way of notable misses.

As of the moment we have raised $572.61. There is still time to donate to the Colorado Birding Challenge if you haven't yet! Thanks to Colorado Field Ornithologists for organizing this fun annual event.
