There could be an expectation bias going on, as well . . . I've had the bird on my "radar" in SW/SC Kansas for years . . . That said, it's easy to simply write a bird off as just a Red-belly without careful scrutiny.

Looks like the range Golden-fronted Woodpecker in the Pan handle of Texas almost abuts se Colorado. Could be expected again, hopefully.
