[cobirds] Bijou Basin future Arapahoe County Open Space Survey

Hi All,

Arapahoe county is in the early stages of developing the Bijou Basin property located in eastern Arapahoe County into an open space. They are currently developing a master plan for the site regarding development of this new open space. They are surveying the public to find out how people want them to develop the property. I hope all of you, especially those in Arapahoe, Adams, and Elbert counties will take the time to fill out this survey from a birder's perspective with a focus on habitat preservation. It took me about 5 minutes to complete the survey. More details and the survey can be found here:  https://www.arapahoeco.gov/your_county/county_departments/open_spaces/our_work/current_projects/bijou_basin.php

I have had the opportunity to go birding a few times a year for the past several years on this property and I am always blown away by the bird diversity, especially the number of migratory birds that can be found in Bijou Basin. I have seen 137 species of birds in just 16 visits to Bijou Basin. This property provides phenomenal habitat for both migratory and breeding birds and my hope is that the county will not degrade the habitat in their efforts to "develop" the property. I hope we as a birding community can make our voices loud and encourage the county to focus on a bird and wildlife friendly, minimally damaging approach to open space development.

Here are a few checklists to give you all an idea of what birds can be found on the property.

I hope you all will take the time to fill out the survey and help preserve Bijou Basin as it is turned into an open space that we can all enjoy.
