[cobirds] Weld County - The Owl Show You Some Good Birding Team

Posted on behalf of Kathy Kay...

Hi All,

Hope everyone had a wonderful Challenge Day!

Our team, Patrick Morgan, Adrian Lakin, Kelly Ormesher, Jeremy Alcorn, and I started at Crow Valley at 6:08am.  The birds were already active and of the first birds we tallied were a pair of calling Great Horned Owls.  We ended our day at St Vrain SP with our last two birds (not counting the ones at Adrian's house) being a Belted Kingfisher and a Common Yellowthroat.

Our Highlights were when Patrick found a Townsend's Warbler at Crow Valley, when Kelly spotted Black Terns flying over Union Reservoir, when Jeremy locked on to a gorgeous Ferruginous Hawk in Pawnee, and when Eagle-eye Lakin got on a Least Flycatcher at Crow Valley.

Our par was 96 for the County.  We had a total of 115 birds, 120% of our goal.

Thanks to everyone who supported our team and the important cause!!

Good Birding,

Kathy Kay
