Today, our suburban yard was very active after last night's cool front pushed through. Before leaving for work before noon we had Red-breasted Nuthatch, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird, several Black-headed Grosbeaks, several waves of Chipping Sparrows, lots of male and female Black-chinned Hummingbirds, many fem/imm Broad Tailed Hummingbirds and Western Tanager. I did not see any warblers or vireos visiting the water feature in the few hours watching the yard. Most birds were found eating Golden Elder and Virginia Creeper berries. The grosbeaks totally ignored the platform feeder with black oil a few feet away. It looks like the peak of migration is here!
