The water level at Timnath Reservoir (southeast Larimer County) is as low as ever, mudflats are extensive, and shorebirding should be fabulous this weekend.
Shorebird species reported there on eBird in the last few days include:
American Avocet
Killdeer
Semipalmated Plover
Black-bellied Plover
Wilson's Phalarope
Lesser Yellowlegs
Spotted Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper
Bairds Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Dunlin (present at dusk today)
Stilt Sandpiper
Long-billed Dowitcher
Wilson's Snipe
The picnic area/boat ramp on the south side (entrance road off CR 40) is open to birders (thanks to an arrangement negotiated by Fort Collins Audubon Society.) However, the east mudflats are best approached from County Line Rd (aka Weld CR13) and from the Wild Wings neighborhood.
