Paula Hansley and I observed a stunningly beautiful small bird with a bright white head along the river bank about a quarter mile south of the parking lot. Our best guess is that it was a Leucitic Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. It was in a mixed flock of Kinglets, Bushtits, a OC Warbler and a typical BG Gnatcatcher.
I don't remember ever seeing a leucitic bird before and this is the second one for me in a couple of weeks. We observed a leucistic Brewer's Blackbird at the Taylor Park Marina at the Taylor Park Reservoir just over a week ago.
Thanks to Eileen Rutherford for the Blackbird photo.
