[cobirds] Boulder County, Oct. 2

Hey, all.

I stopped off at a few spots in the lowlands of eastern Boulder County yesterday, Wed., Oct. 2, with these results:

Baseline Reservoir. With the drizzle finally coming to an end, a quick count of 196 barn swallows hawking for insects low over the water's surface. Surely many more. Also, 17 widely scattered pied-billed grebes, a little fallout.

Sombrero Marsh. 2 handsome clay-colored sparrows, 1 Lincoln sparrow. Great shorebird habitat there, but only killdeer that I could detect.

Legion Park overlook. Decent passerine flight underway, with 1 Say phoebe, 40+ American robins, 1 American pipit, 5 chipping sparrows, 2 Gambel white-crowned sparrows, 2 vesper sparrows, and 5 Audubon warblers, all in and around the parking area.

Prince Lake No. 2. An early cackling goose and 2 tardy Foster terns. Good shorebird habitat here, but full of gulls, including 2 California gulls. Also 2 snowy egrets.

Waneka Lake. This thing:

It's that time of year again!
