The beginning of the afternoon at Timnath Reservoir started out great with some migrating hawks. Within minutes of arriving back in our circle we spotted a Sharp-shinned and Ferruginous Hawk making their way southward. A few minutes later a Northern Harrier flew over as our 80th species of the day from the circle since some of the Ruddy Ducks from this morning were visible from the circle when we arrived. The rest of the evening was pretty slow, but we added a late Yellow-headed Blackbird while watching hundreds (probably thousands) of Common Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds head to their evening roost somewhere south of the reservoir. I was also able to spot a few Redheads in the duck flock which had a decent number of Canvasbacks. Carrie went on a little walk to the west and saw a Say's Phoebe which luckily landed on a sign in an open field after she notified me bringing out total to 83 species for the day from the circle. She also found a Hermit Thrush on her walk, but we didn't have high hopes that it would be visible from our circle. I think we finished the day with 87 species at Timnath Reservoir (4 of which we could not find from the Big Sit) and 90 overall for the day with Red-breasted Nuthatch, Parasitic Jaeger, and American Crow (I spent a solid 30 minutes scanning to the west hoping to spot one from our circle) at Warren Lake in the middle of the day.
Good Birding,
