[cobirds] West Centennial Arrivals and Lingerers (Arapahoe)

Thirty-four species of birds around my yard in west Centennial (Arapahoe) today. Half a dozen Western Tanagers, a trio of Lazuli Buntings, and a baker's dozen of White Pelicans were highlights. Two of the three buntings were new arrivals; both were males, joining a female who arrived yesterday. A male Orchard Oriole, a first for my yard, made a brief visit. A Swainson's Thrush also appeared this morning.

Yesterday, I had my first Common Nighthawk of the year. It flew southward over my yard at dusk, perhaps suggesting an earlier arrival and a night spent feeding in the area. It came through loud and relatively low.

A pair of gray-headed juncos remains in the neighborhood. A month ago, I saw one of the pair toying with nesting material (until my dog chased it away, sadly). Haven't noticed any other signs of nesting since then.
