ADAMS COUNTY:
--A Swamp Sparrow was banded by Meredith McBurney at Barr Banding Station on September 29.
--A Nashville Warbler was banded by Meredith Mc Burney at Barr Banding Station on October 2.
ARAPAHOE COUNTY:
--A Nashville Warbler was reported by David Hill and Cynthia Madsen at Parker Jordan Centennial Open Space on September 30.
--At Cherry Creek SP on October Gabriel Wiltse reported ARCTIC TERN and EASTERN TOWHEE.
BOULDER COUNTY:
--An ad Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Bill Hutchinson in Sunshine Canyon on September 30.
--2 juv Little Blue-heron were reported by Carl Starce at Clover Basin Reservoir on October 2.
--3 Chestnut-collared Longspsurs were reported by Scott Severs at Lagerman Reservoir on October 4.
DENVER COUNTY:
--Del Rosso and Rurik reported a Philadelphia Vireo on the western edge of Denver Botanic Gardens on September 23. It was near the Japanese Gardens. On September 28, Del Rosso reported Philadelphia Vireo at Denver Botanic Gardens and Cheesman Park.
DOUGLAS COUNTY:
--A Red Phalarope was reported by Doug Kibbe at Chafield Sp north of the marina pit on September 18. It was seen again on September 19 from the spit. There were multiple reports of this bird on the DFO website on September 20.
--2 Eastern Phoebes were reported by Ben Sampson and Joey Kellner upstream of Kingfisher Bridge at Chatfield SP on September 26.
--2 Eastern Phoebes were reported by Joey Kellner downstream of Kingfisher Bridge at Chatfield SP on September 26.
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Kathy Mihm Dunning and Joey Kellner at Chatfield upstream of Kingfisher Bridge on October 3.
--A juv ARCTIC TERN was reported by Glenn Walbek at the Chatfield sandspit on October 2. The ARCTIC TERN was seen by several other birders on October 2. On October 3, Bryan and Kristin Arnold reported ARCTIC TERN and Sabine's Gull east of the sandspit at Chatfield. The ARCTIC TERN was seen by many birder on October 3. On October 4, Van Remsen reported Red-necked Grebe and ARCTIC TERN at Chatfield. On October 5, Mark Chavez reported ARCTIC TERN and imm Sabine's Gull at Chatfield SP, and Sue Riffe and many others reported Red-necked Grebe at Chatfield.
EL PASO COUNTY:
--Peterson Reported a Red-bellied Woodpecker at Ramah SWA on September 23.
--On September 29 an Ovenbird was banded at and on September 28 a Curve-billed Thrasher was banded by Amanda Ziegelbauer at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area).
--On October 5, Steve Brown reported a Broad-winged Hawk at Clear Springs Ranch.
JEFFERSON COUNTY:
--The imm Sabine's Gull and Red Phalarope were seen again at Chatfield SP on the Jeffco side of the seem from the swim beach on September 21 by Somershoe. The Sabine's Gull continued on September 23.
--A Great Crested Flycatcher was reported by Gerald Baines at Bear Creek Greenbelt from S. Kipling Pkwy to S. Wadsworth Blvd on September 25.
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Ben Sampson at Chatfield Swim Beach on September 26.
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Gerald Baines at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield on October 2.
KIOWA COUNTY:
--A SEDGE WREN was reported by Bill Kaempfer at Sand Creek National Historic Site .25 miles east of entrance gate where CR 2 crosses Big Sandy Creek on September 26.
KIT CARSON COUNTY:
--6 Broad-winged Hawks and a Magnolia Warbler were reported by David Dowell at Flagler Reservoir SWA on October 4.
LARIMER COUNTY:
--A juv Sabine's Gull was reported by Austin Hess at Fossil Creek Reservoir on September 27.
--A non-breeding plumaged ad Sabine's Gulll was reported by Nick Komar on a farm pond in the NE corner of Horseshoe Reservoir in Loveland off CR 28 on September 27.
--A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Nick Komar, Austin Hess, and David Wade at Horsehsoe Reservoir on September 27.
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Chris Wood and Jessie Barry on Fall River Road in Rocky Mt NP on October 1.
--A Green Heron was reported by Jim Nelson at Matthews-Reeser Bird Sanctuary at Lake Estes on October 2.
--A juv LITTLE GULL was found by Nick Komar at the NE corner CR 28 of Horseshoe Reservoir in Loveland on October 3.
--On October 4, Nick Komar reported 1 sub ad Sabine's Gull and 2 ad Lesser Black-backed Gulls at Horseshoe Reservoir in Loveland.
LINCOLN COUNTY:
--A McCown's Longspur was reported by Dale Adams on CR 41 on September 26.
--On October 5, on CR 3E near Genoa, Glenn Walbek reported 65 Chestnut-collared Longspurs, 110 McCown's Longspurs, and 1 BAIRD'S SPARROW.
LOGAN COUNTY:
--A Nashville Warbler was reported by David Dowell at North Sterling Reservoir on October 3.
MESA COUNTY:
--A Black Phoebe at the pond at Grand Junction Wildlife Area was reported by Mike Henwood on September 28 and 29. Mike Henwood reported Black Phoebes at Grand Junction Wildlife Area on October 1.
--A Black Phoebe was reported by Brett Walker on the Colorado River at Horsethief SWA near Fruita on October 3.
--On October 5, Mike Henwood reported 16 HUDSONIAN GODWITS at Redlands Parkway Ponds.
MONTROSE COUNTY:
--A juv Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Coen Dexter along cliffs just S of Columbine Pass on September 28.
--An ad Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Coen Dexter in Nucla on October 1.
MORGAN COUNTY:
--A Parasitic Jaeger was reported by Jessie Barry at Jackson Reservoir on the N side on October 3. On October 4, Norm Erthal reported ad Parasitic Jaeger at Jackson Reservoir. On October 5,Todd Deininger reported Parasitic Jaeger at Jackson Reservoir seen from the North Side.
OURAY COUNTY:
--Bill Day post photos of a female Painted Bunting at the Ridgeway banding station on September 18.
PARK COUNTY:
--Suddjian reported 2 juv Sabine's Gulls and Eleven Mile Reservoir on September 18 and on September 22 her reported an ad Sabine's Gull in Alternate plumage there.
--Blakeslee reported a Green Heron at Bailey on Septmeber 24. Directions: At the bottom of Crow Hill ()hwy 285) turn left or east on CR 68 or the Wellington Lake Road. there is a Bailey Propane, a restaurant, and a couple of businesses and then the sewage plant. Just past the sewage plant along cr 68 is a shall little pond with willows and cattails on the far side. The heron was fishing in this pond.
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by David Suddjian on CR 98 on September 2
SUMMIT COUNTY:
--2 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by David and Mary Anne Marjamma at the Silverthorne Water Treatment Plant on October 2.
WELD COUNTY:
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Sue Riffe at Crow Valley CG on September 26.
--A White-winged Dove was reported by David Wade at Union Reservoir on September 27.
--2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a Whimbrel were reported by Steve Mlodinow at Windsor Reservoir on September 28.
--At Crow Valley CG on October 3, Jessie Barry and Chris Wood reported Red-bellied Woodpecker, Least Flycatcher, and 2 Eastern Phoebe.
--A Lapland Longspur was reported by Chris Wood near Briggsdale on CR 105 on October 3.
--On October 5, Steve Mlodinow reported Broad-winged Hawk and Eastern Phoebe at Crow Valley CG.
YUMA COUNTY:
--On October 4, at Pipit Hill in South Republican Wildlife Easement, David Dowell reported at least 3 Sprague's Pipits.
DFO Field Trips:
The DFO Field Trip for Thursday, October 8 will be to Eldorado Mountain Open Space led by Paula Hansley (plhansley AT gmail.com; 720-890-2628). Meet the leader at the NE corner of the intersection of Highway 93 and Hwy 70 (Marshall Road). Carpool 3 miles to trailhead as parking is limited.
Will be walking both the Fowler trail and Goshawk Ridge Trail. Bring water, snacks as needed and binoculars. Lunch is optional. Register online or contact leader.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, October 10 will be to Majestic View Nature Center led by Jackie King (jackie.king AT ccd.edu; 720-381-3314). Majestic View Nature Center is a 7030 Garrison St., Arvada. Meet in the Nature Center parking lot. From the West: Oberon Rd to 66th Ave, east to Garrison St., north to the Nature Center parking lot. Lunch is optional Bring water and snacks. Walk is roughy two miles on paved or gravel paths. Register online or contact leader.
On Sunday, October 11 will be The Big Sit at Chatfield SP from 0645 to 1845 led by Joey Kellner (vireo1 AT comcast.net; 303-978-1748). The Big Sit will center at The Heron Overlook. From the Wadsworth Blvd entrance, go past the pay station to the stop sign, turn right at this 'T' continue around the reservoir. Cross the S Platte River and continue up the hill. Turn left at the sign for the park headquarters and make a hard left into the large parking lot label Heronry Overlook. At the far right corner, a trail leads down to the Heron Overlook. State Parks pass or day pass required.
Come and join Joey Kellner and other recruits at any time from (before) down to (after) dusk. Stay for an hour, a morning, or all day. Drop by whenever you like. Bring chairs, breakfast, lunch, dinner, picnics,coffee, etc. Bring Binoculars, scopes, and field guides.
The DFO Field Trip for October 11 will be to Cherry Creek SP Wetlands Loop led by Karen von Saltz (kvonsaltza AT yahoo.com; 303-941-4881). Meet at the Prairie Loop lot in Cherry Creek SP. From either park entrance, follow Lake View Rd to the Prairie Loop that is located at the south rim of the reservoir. State Parks pass or day pass required.
This is a half day of walking that passes through most of the important habitats found in the park over a distace of about 3.5 miles. Trails could be slippery or muddy, so dress accordingly. Bring water and snacks. lunch is optional Register online or contact leader.
