[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Station at Barr, 10/4/15

Today was cool and grey and migrating birds were in relatively short supply, but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of a group of former Bird Conservancy summer campers and their parents, who, led by our Education Director Tyler Edmondson, had spent the night camping out at the Bird Conservancy headquarters before coming to the banding station for the morning.  Between new and recaps, we came up with 24 birds of 11 species.  Here are the 15 new ones:

White-breasted Nuthatch 1

Orange-crowned Warbler 1

Spotted Towhee 1

White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 8

Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 2

House Sparrow 2

It does not seem like many new birds have arrived the last 2 days.  Although we have reached the natural end of most of the migrating warblers, we have yet to see adult Yellow-rumpeds, and we've had very few Chipping Sparrows or Juncos.  Hoping for another nice wave of birds during this coming week, which will be our last of the season. Our closed day this week is Thursday, 10/8. We are opening nets about 6:45, and running until noon or whenever it gets too hot or too windy or too slow or too whatever. School groups arrive about 9:30 a.m. most weekdays.
