COBIRDERS,
This afternoon I found a Green Heron in a small pond just outside of Bailey in Park County. The bird was fishing in a shallow pond from at least 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
At the bottom of Crow Hill (Hwy. 285) turn left, or east on County Road 68 or the Wellington Lake Road. There is Bailey Propane, a restaurant, and a couple of businesses and then the sewage plant. Just past the sewage plant along CR 68 is a shallow little pond with willows and cattails on the far side. The heron was fishing in this pond.
In the past I have had a Snowy Egret in the same pond during spring migration. Last spring I had a breeding plumage Common Loon on Wellington Lake.
The Bailey Heron (Great Blue) Rookery is south across the river and the hay meadow in Blue Spruce trees and has been active for at least 8 years.
Enjoy, Chris
