Despite the rough loss last night on top of the death of Cam the Ram on Friday, the Colorado State University Field Ornithologists held a field trip bright and early this morning visiting a few bodies of water in Larimer County this morning. If we had more time we probably could have covered more ground. The morning started off well when Sean Walters and I found the first Warbling Vireo and Gray Catbird eBirded on CSU's main campus. We also had a Calliope Hummingbird in the small forest on the south side of campus.
On the official field trip, we made our first stop at Timnath Reservoir where Sean found a few distant large plovers and we were able to confirm the identification as American Golden-Plover once they flew. We also had a few other shorebird species including Western Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Red-necked Phalarope, and Stilt Sandpiper while scoping from the eastern part of the reservoir. We did not find any interesting gulls or other seabirds so we moved on to Fossil Creek Reservoir where we lacked anything noteworthy. Our final stop was where the archery pond used to be just south of Prospect Road, but we learned that the pond no longer exists. You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
