I banded a late juv Northern Waterthrush this morning at Clear Spring Ranch, #16 for the season. I've only had two after this date in 7 falls.
The Spizella flock has mostly moved on, finally. I still caught 20 Chipping Sparrows, 4 Clay-colored Sparrows, and a single Brewer's Sparrow today, but that is way off the numbers I had last week.
There was good species diversity arriving this morning, and an unexpected wave of Wilson's Warblers arrived about 9:45 when it was already hot, clear and calm. Wonder where they were all morning!
Also good sparrow diversity, with Lark Sparrow, Vesper, Lincolns, Savannah, Song, and a couple Ad Green-tailed Towhees. 54 birds banded today.
I don't expect much this week with the hot, dry forecast, but we'll see!
Good Birding,
Steve Brown
