At Barr, the Spizellas had moved on (I forgot to mention yesterday that most of those we caught had good amounts of fat; they almost certainly came down because of the rainstorm, not because they needed to refuel) and the Warblers were back in force. 80 new birds today, of which 66 were Warblers:
-- Western Wood Pewee 2
Dusky Flycatcher 1
House Wren 5
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Orange-crowned Warbler 7
Yellow Warbler 5
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 3
Townsend's Warbler 2
American Redstart 1
Ovenbird 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 46
Clay-colored Sparrow 4
We are open 6 days per week (closed Mondays), weather permitting, through October 14. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have birds back at the station by 7:15. We will close most days by about 11:30 (closing earlier now because of heat). School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays. This Saturday is the annual Barr Lake Birding Festival; there will be lots of great activities and lots of people!
Come visit!
