[cobirds] Re: Common Terns and a couple of grebes

Well, once again Christian Nunes was able to provide key information to distinguish whether these were Common Terns or Forster's Terns.  The bills and legs were orange, rather than a darker orange-red, which indicates Forster's Terns.  I had to go take another look, the sun was out this time, giving a good look at colors.  Earlier there was a bit of overcast, I thought they had black bills at first, but then realized that they were reddish (orange, actually) with a black tip.  I was also going by the primary feather color in Sibley, which showed a much lighter color on the Forster's than on the Commons.

Anyway, three Forster's terns were still sitting on buoy balls in the middle of the reservoir as of 4:15 pm, hopefully they will hang around awhile for other folks to get a look.  Sorry for the false alarm -

Happy birding -
