Hi all
Spent Sunday at home, watching the snow fly occasionally, and the yardbirds..
HARRIS’S SPARROW continues – and now looking very ‘dapper’ – For at least its 138th day.
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW – a record high of six migrants in the yard today (they are only ever here a few days a year)
VIRGINIA’S WARBLER – FOS one late afternoon .. we have very few records in our yard
PINYON JAYS – up to 12
EVENING GROSBEAKS – up to 30
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK – at least one (unsuccessful) visit
GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE - one for its 2nd day
MOURNING DOVE - FOS
Meanwhile – my friends from the UK whom I have been with the past few days left yesterday afternoon and headed to Gunnison, where this morning they visited the Waunita Lek but saw no Gunnison Sage-Grouse.. The lek itself has been flooded by meltwater, for the past several days, but some birds are being seen some days on the hill behind the lek, and thus being viewed at even greater distance than normal. However today - no birds seen.
They then headed to SE Colorado and failed to find any Mountain Plovers either..
Best wishes all
