ADAMS COUNTY:
--On April 25, Otis reports seeing 6 GLOSSY IBIS off Gateway Road leading into Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR, they were at the north side pond.
BENT COUNTY:
--On April 25, Duane Nelson reports a HERMIT WARBLER at Melody Tempel Grove in Bent County. It was re-found later by Leatherman, and others.
--On April 24, Percival reports the two Eastern Phoebes continue at Melody Tempel Grove in NE Bent Co.
--On April 24, Riffe reports the YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER and the Black-throated Gray Warbler, continue at Tempel Grove, that was first seen on April 19 by Duane Nelson.
--On April 19, at Tempel Grove Duane Nelson reported YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, Black-throated Gray Warbler, and Black-and-white Warbler.
BACA COUNTY:
--On April 22, Riffe reports an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE at Carrizo Picnic/Camping Area.
--Riffe reports a Curved-billed Thrasher and a Black-throated Sparrow at Cottonwood Canyon on April 23.
--On April 24, Komar reports seeing a singing male Northern Parula at Cottonwood Canyon.
BOULDER COUNTY:
--Blackford reports the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW continues at Teller Farms North, (west of 95th on Valmont Rd) the Golden-crowned Sparrow was out feeding with the White-crowned Sparrows, on April 24.
--A GLOSSY IBIS was reported by Gent at a pond on the west side of 109th St just N of Jasper Road on April 19. On April 20, Waltman reported GLOSSY IBIS at 109th and Jasper.
CHAFFEE/GUNNISON COUNTIES:
--3 American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Komar at Monarch Pass Summit east of Gunnison on April 23.
DELTA COUNTY:
--Garrison reported hearing Chukars at the Pleasure Park area on the Gunnison River on April 24.
DOUGLAS COUNTY:
--A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Suddjian flying over the parking area for Sharptail Ridge Open Space on April 21.
DOUGLAS/JEFFERSON COUNTIES:
--At Chatfield SP on April 21, Suddjian reported a pair of Rusty Blackbirds and a Swamp Sparrow along Plum Creek near the Picnic Area and an Eastern Phoebe along the S Platte River upstream from Kingfisher Bridge.
EAGLE COUNTY:
--A few Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Filby at Spring Park Reservoir on April 21.
El PASO COUNTY:
--A Little Blue Heron was found by Joy Lake at the county’s Drake Pond (aka Mallard Pond) in Falcon off HWY 24, take Blue Gill Road to Mallard Road to the two pull offs with short trails. The bird was seen yesterday under the willow near the end of the newly built trail that ends at the willow and a bench. The heron also visits a pond upstream on private property that is not visible from public property, the landowner not wanting trespassers there.
--A Black-and-white Warbler was reported by Drummond by the banding station at Chico Basin Ranch on April 21.
--A m Hooded Warbler was reported by Percival at Chico Basin Ranch between the banding station and Bell Grove on April 20.
--A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Percival by the banding station at Chico Basin Ranch on April 20.
--A Greater Roadrunner was reported by Percival on Hanover Road on April 20.
--A Northern Parula was reported by Tyler Stuart along the creek on the south side of Sinton Pond in Colorado Springs on April 15. On April 18, Maynard reported Northern Parula at Sinton Pond.
--On April 22, at Hanover Fire Station, a Black-throated Sparrow was reported by Goff.
FREMONT COUNTY:
--On April 24, Moss reports a Green Heron at Florence River Park, in Canyon City.
--On April 18, Percival reported 2 Eastern Phoebes on the Canon City Riverwalk between Reynolds and Sell.
GARFIELD COUNTY:
--Filby reported on April 23 that his yard Harris's Sparrow in Carbondale is still present. If you would like to try to see the bird email him at dickfilby AT hotmail.com.
GUNNISON COUNTY:
--On April 25, Beason reports singing Fox Sparrows in the morning at Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery near Almont and Neversink Trail at Curecanti National Recreation Area west of Gunnison.
KIOWA COUNTY:
--A singing male YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was reported by Cooper at Sand Creek Massacre NHS Visitor Center on April 21.
LARIMER COUNTY:
--On April 25, Panjabi reports a (second year?) male Black-throated Gray Warbler, 25 m past the wooden bridge in Spring Canyon, about 1/4 mile before the falls.
--At Lee Martinez Park in Fort Collins on April 23, Sparks reported a light adult Broad-winged Hawk flying over the Poudre River and a Green Heron 50 ft N of the bike trail and parking lot intersection.
MESA COUNTY:
--A Black-throated Gray Warbler was seen by Toolen on Liberty Cap Trail at Colorado National Monument on April 24.
--A pair of Black Phoebes was discovered by Stigen on April 15 on the Audubon Trail in Grand Junction and on April 22
Henwood reports that they are nest building at what he is calling '"Phoebe Rock".
--A Chukar was reported by Komar at the Collbran exit off I-70 on a cliff over looking a pullout on April 22.
MONTROSE COUNTY:
--On April 24, Wright reports the White-throated Sparrow continues in Nucla, singing away.
OTERO COUNTY:
--On April 23, Riffe reports a least two pairs of Snowy Plovers at Cheraw
--On April 25, Komar reports a possible BENDIRE’S THRASHER, south of Higbee on Hwy 109 in a cholla field. Had the jizz of a Curve-billed Thrasher but smaller and straighter-billed. Will share photos when they become available. Precise location was entered on eBird. Three Greater Roadrunners were seen on the drive between La Junta and Cottonwood Canyon.
PARK COUNTY:
--On April 23, Suddjian reported a Black-throated Gray Warbler along Road 104, a short way north of the Fremont County line in some pinyon / oak habitat.
--At 11 mile Canyon on April 22, Suddjian reported an American Three-toed Woodpecker along County Road 96. Along County Roads 61 and 98, a Northern Pygmy-Owl was seen.
--Suddjian reports on April 22, at Eleven Mile Reservoir a beautiful alternate-plumaged RED-NECKED GREBE north of Sucker Cove, a male and female WHITE-WINGED SCOTER between Sucker Cove and Cross Creek, and 8 alternate COMMON LOONS (six were at the northwest end of the reservoir), and 1 male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE.
PROWERS COUNTY:
--On April 24, Percival reports an alternate plumaged Dunlin at Thurston Reservoir, north of Lamar.
--On April 24, Percival reports 2 Broad-winged Hawks, 1 White-winged Dove, Northern Cardinals, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers at Lamar Community College grove.
--On April 22, Riffe reports Snowy Plovers at Thurston SWA.
--On April 24, Komar reports a Broad-winged Hawk, mature, and a Black-throated Gray Warbler in the Lamar Community College grove.
--3 ad Broad-winged Hawks were reported by Severs flying over Lamar Community College on April 20.
PUEBLO COUNTY:
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Percival in Rock Canyon at Osprey Picnic Area on April 21.
--A probable BLUE-HEADED VIREO was photographed by Mitchell at Chico Basin Ranch Headquarters on April 18.
--A Green Heron was reported by Percival on an island on the W side of Pueblo City Park on April 19.
--A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Percival soaring over Rock Canyon, below Pueblo Reservoir Dam on April 25.
--A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Percival flying over the Valco Ponds Parking Lot in Pueblo on April 19.
--Riffe reports a flyover Broad-winged Hawk at Chico Basin Ranch on April 24.
--A Carolina Wren was found by Silverman in the western part of Green Horn Meadows Park in Colorado City on April 19.
--A singing male Indigo Bunting was reported by Percival at the Frisbee Golf Course at Pueblo City Park on April 22.
--2 Green Herons were reported by Percival at the pond at Pueblo City Park on April 22.
ROUTT COUNTY:
--At Lake Catamount on April 19, Moore report 30 - 40 Barrow's Goldeneyes.
SAN MIGUEL COUNTY:
--Wright reports seeing a pair of Chukars at the west end of San Miguel County on April 24.
TELLER COUNTY:
--A Black Phoebe was reported by Hinds at Manitou Lake on April 19. The Black Phoebe was seen again on April 19 by Jones
at Manitou Lake along with a Rusty Blackbird.
WELD COUNTY:
--A GLOSSY IBIS was reported by Mlodinow at a pond at the intersection of CO 119 and CR 7 on April 21.
YUMA COUNTY:
--A pair of Harris's Sparrow was reported by Matheus at Stalker Pond in Wray on April 21.
DFO Field Trips:
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, April 26 will be to South Platte Park led by Dick Anderson(303-757-4582, cell 303-875-4696).
Meet at 0800 in the parking area off C-470. Take C-470 west from Santa Fe to South Plate Canyon Road, turn sharp right onto Viable Road leading to parking area. Part at the lot at the end of the road near the river. Finish around 1100. Bring water, binoculars, a scope if you have one, and dress for variable weather.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, April 27 will be to the Pueblo Area led by Paul Slingsby(303-422-3728). This Trip is full.
DFO meeting Monday April 28, featuring Nathan Pieplow. “Five Audio ID’s every Colorado Birder Should Know”, Nathan will talk about how to separate the sounds of Williamson’s and Red-naped Sapsucker; the drums of Three-toed Woodpecker; the songs of Dusky, Hammond’s, and Gray Flycatchers; the winter calls of Horned Lark, American Pipit, and Sprague’s Pipit; and the calls of Common and Chihuahuan Ravens. A brief quiz at the end of the evening will help cement the skills in our brains.
NOTE: The DFO meeting is in the Denver Museum of Nature and Science Planetarium.
Enter through the north door by 7:30 p.m. We must lock the door a little after that time.
