I spent the first 5 hours of the day walking up and down the hedgerows at Tamarack Ranch. That area is still incredibly birdy, with the show including >800 robins, several hundred juncos (including 5 WW Juncos and 5 "Cassiar" Juncos), 11 Red-bellied Woodpecker, 49 Eastern Bluebirds, 6 N Cardinals, a Myrtle Warbler and a CAROLINA WREN.
Driving fields was less productive, though a day total of 4 Harlan's Hawks and 3 Ferruginous was nice. The best bird, by far, was a SNOW LARK.
Never heard of one. Neither had I. I was sure that I had a Snow Bunting, and fortunately the flock landed at roadside. There I could see a mostly white bird, with some buff on head.. all good. I snapped some photos, looked again, and did not like the uniform whiteness when the bird flew. Sure enough, my blurry photos show a black Horned Lark bill, a ghost of the Horned Lark black mask, and yellow wash on throat... and buffy crown. Otherwise, it was all white.
Good Birding
