All,
My email has been down since 5pm yesterday because of the annual powerdown and repairs at NCAR. So, I didn't know about the Nelson's Sparrow until I looked at Cobirds through the CFO site at 10pm. Then I overslept, and was not with the group when they started looking. I finally arrived at the place, having got lost a bit around Chico, and Steve S found the bird within 5 minutes of my arrival. I dallied a little at the Headquarters, and saw White-crowned, White-throated, and Harris's Sparrows as well as a Fox Sparrow. On my way to Chico, Bill Kaempfer called to tell me that Steve M had found a Dunlin at Panama Res. I had missed this species in Boulder Co the last two times it had been seen because I was away. Bill called again when he refound it, and it was exactly where he said when I arrived at 2pm. Also there were the 4 Sandhill Cranes. Bill then told me he had seen the Golden-crowned Sparrow at Teller Farms on his way home. I had looked for that bird last Sunday for over an hour without seeing it. As you may guess, I completed the Zonotrichia 4-play today within 15 seconds of getting out of my car. I'm off to buy a lottery ticket !!!!
Cheers, Peter Gent (Boulder).
