CO birders :
Today I lead a small group from Fort Collins around the Park County Mountain Lakes . The wind was strong and gusty all day making conditions very difficult. Highlights :
Lake George : Good numbers of waterfowl including 100 + Ring-necked Duck.
Eleven Mile Canyon : McCown's Longspur , first spotted by Nick Komar, ( first County Record ? ) , photographed , first year male associating with Horned Larks along entrance road to Roger's Mountain access , south side of Reservoir , Clark's Grebe .
Spinney Mountain : Common Loon , Herring Gull .
Antero : Common Loon .
No Scoters , no Goldeneye , just 2 loons.
Rough-legged Hawk ( 3 light phase ) , Golden Eagle ( 2 adults ) and Bald Eagle ( 3 rd year imm ) were our best raptors .
Hope the wind cooperates better tomorrow as I will be going back again.
