Hey Gang! Heather and I just spent the evening chasing a first winter GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at the Durango Fish Hatchery Pond. The bird was not very cooperative but Heather got some decent photos of it that she is going through as I write this. I believe the bird was still there in the brush on the northeast end of the pond (between the pond and the river) when we gave up due to darkness. The bird has very little facial marking, a bicolored bill (dark on top), and a bit of gold at the front of the crown. It was hanging around with some Song Sparrows and a few White-crowned Sparrows, sometimes along the river, sometimes eating seeds in the rabbit brush where it would disappear for minutes at a time.
