another BoCo BlTe (was: "Re: [cobirds] Black tern, Walden...")

Hey, Laura & everybody.

There was another Boulder County black tern this stormy Mon. morning, May 11, over at Stearns Lake. Mostly, the bird was high up, whipping around well above the "swallow zone." But every once in a while, it came down near the dam. I got to hear the tern's strange flight call a couple of times, a sound I almost never hear.

Also at Stearns: great and snowy egrets, Wilson phalaropes, long-billed dowitchers, a western willet, grounded Savannah and Vesper sparrows, and great-tailed grackles aplenty.

P. s. There was a gray flycatcher yesterday evening, Sun., May 10, at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County, and again this Mon. morning, May 11--perhaps the same bird as reported at the site by Andy Ångström on Sat., May 9.

Currently watching a black tern foraging over the private pond that can be viewed from the northwest area of Walden ponds (the pond with all the bee boxes). Lots of swallows feeding on the pond too. Tern is bigger and has a loping flight. Way cool!
