Additional photos of today's female sapsucker at Grandview Cemetery, which I called a Yellow-bellied, has one glitch. It has a very small patch of red at the bottom of the otherwise white throat. Everything else about it matches adult female Yellow-bellied but this bit of red suggests some Red-naped blood. I guess this bird should be called a hybrid. Pictures below show the back (perfect for Yellow-bellied) and a side view. This side view is more revealing of the lower throat than the one I posted earlier this afternoon.
Still a cool bird.
