[cobirds] Trip Results (and other): Breakfast and Birding on the "Other" Pawnee National

Hi all

Beautiful morning on Pawnee NG, gorgeous sunrise on way out to Pawnee Station Cafe in New Raymer.  Excellent hospitality there. We did the Stoneham-area bounded by Hwy 71 (W) x Hwy 14 (S) x Weld County border (E) x Weld CR 124 (N) from 0730-just before noon (and the heat).

Total of 36 species seen.

Highlights:
  • Burrowing Owl - 50+
  • Turkey Vulture - 3
  • Dickcissel 4
  • Blue Grosbeak - 5
  • Greater (2) and Lesser (1) Yellowlegs
  • American Avocet - 27
  • Wilson's Phalarope - 10
  • Golden Eagle
  • Ferruginous Hawk
  • Common Nighthawk - 12+
  • Great Horned Owl
  • Loggerhead Shrike
  • Bullock's Oriole - 2
  • Northern Mockingbird
Rest: Mourning Dove, Eurasian-collared Dove, SWainson's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, American Kestrel, Horned Lark, Western Meadowlark
Western Kingbird,European Starling, Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, House Sparrow, American Robin, Killdeer, Barn Swallow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Mallard, Lark Bunting, Eastern Kingbird, and Northern Harrier.

Other solo birding:
  • Virginia Rail - 6 [Beebe Draw out in the open on Weld CR 42on south mud flat]
  • Wilson's Snipe - 6 [(4) Beebe Draw out in the open on Weld CR 42on south mud flat; (2) Weld CR 48]
  • Greater (8) and Lesser Yellowlegs (3) [Beebe Draw out in the open on Weld CR 42on south mud flat]
  • Least Sandpiper - 2 [Crom Lake]
