I stopped in to look at McClellen Reservoir early this morning, viewing from the shoulder of County Line Road. There were about 500 gulls in one flock near the ice edge. The great majority were Ring-billed, along with 1 adult Thayer's Gull, 4 California Gulls, and 16 Herring Gulls. Among the 3000 geese I spied 1 Greater White-fronted Goose.
-- At St. Mary Church along So. Prince St. there was a good movement of gulls passing over at the end of the day through drifting snowflakes, with nearly 400 passing in about 20 minutes. Almost all were Ring-billed, but among them I spotted 1 1st cycle Thayer's Gull. All were aiming south toward McClellen Reservoir.
Passing by South Platte Reservoir on C470 near sunrise it looked like there was no ice at all, but likely some will be there by morning.
In JeffCo, a continuing Gr. White Fronted Goose was at Clement Park yesterday beside the entrance road to Columbine Library.
Sadly, one of the Ruby-crowned Kinglets wintering around my Ken Caryl home was lying dead on the ground outside my backdoor this evening. In the last two weeks I had noted one almost daily, two on a few days, and an impressive three in the yard one day.
