On December 11, 2009, I photographed what I originally thought was a Greater White-fronted x Canada Goose at Stearn's Lake in Boulder County. Bob Spencer and a couple of other astute Front Range birders suggested that it was actually a Graylag x Canada hybrid. After further research, I agreed. The juvenile has the white eye marks, body shape and coloration of a Canada Goose but has stocky yellow legs (already thicker than adult Canada Goose), bi-colored bill (top black, bottom yellow), and the bill shape of a Graylag Goose. This is a weird looking bird it'll be interesting to see what it grows up to look like. Has anyone else encountered a hybrid of these two species before?
