[cobirds] Waterton Weekend Plug

Wanted to put in a plug for a couple of birding related activities this weekend at Waterton Canyon (Jefferson Co.).  With passerine migration starting to ramp up, and weather looking favorable, could be a productive couple of days.

1)      “Doug’s 50th Anniversary of Birding” DFO Trip (Sat., 29 Apr.’23 @ 6:30am) – It’s been 50 years since I went on my very first official birding outing, a DFO trip led by Hugh Kingery to Waterton on April 29th, 1973.  I’m going to retrace the day hiking up the canyon before dropping back down towards Chatfield – base camp will be the Denver Audubon Nature Center.  There are still a few spots left, so if you’d like to join me even for just a morning, please sign up for the trip on the DFO site (Upcoming Field Trips (dfobirds.org)).

2)      Denver Audubon Vintage Book Sale (Sat. & Sun., 29-30 Apr.’23) – Denver Audubon is holding a used nature book sale at the Audubon Nature Center this weekend.  Of special note this year is the fact that Hugh and Urling Kingery cleaned out their closets and have donated an incredible 175 books, most birds and birding related, so certain to be more than a few classics in this collection – might have to play hooky for a bit from my trip Saturday to do a little shopping for a good cause.  Here are the specifics from Denver Audubon:
