[cobirds] Boulder County Audubon meeting: "A Big Year with Sandy Komito" 1/28 7:30pm

Tuesday, January 28, 7:15 p.m.

Boulder Unitarian Universalist Church, 5001 Pennsylvania Avenue, Boulder

In 1998 Sandy Komito set the record for the most birds ever seen by one observer in North America in a single year: 748 species. His feat was described in "The Big Year" book and movie. During his 1998 big year, Sandy spent 270 days in the field and logged 275,000 miles. He also completed a record-setting big year in 1987 (722 species). He is currently striving to photograph at least 700 species of North American birds, a number he has already exceeded. Sandy will talk about his adventures, show photos of some of the rarer birds he has encountered, and set the record straight about what really happened during that imaginatively-portrayed 1998 big year.

Free and open to all.
