[cobirds] Mexican Duck and others, Summit

Hi all,
This past weekend my brother and I birded extensively around Summit County and found a few interesting birds in the wake of the recent storm. On Saturday (4/13), there was an apparently pure Mexican Duck as well as three other Mexican Ducks or Mexican Duck x Mallard hybrids at Angler Lakes in Silverthorne. Also present were a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, male Barrow's Goldeneye, and a Lesser Yellowlegs likely forced down by the snow flurries. In the Silverthorne Wildernest Area nearby, there were three Black Rosy-Finches among the more common species. The following day we returned to Angler Lakes and found two early Barn Swallows, a handful of Northern Shovelers, and one duck hybrid. In the ponds along Hwy 9 there were eight Wilson's Snipe, and at Ute Pass Road we had a flyover flock of Horned Larks. Dillon Reservoir was largely frozen, and in the few areas which were devoid of ice there were relatively few waterfowl. Around Frisco there was an early Red-naped Sapsucker, and the White-throated Sparrow continued in a private community south of the town. Also present were Red Crossbills, Evening and Pine Grosbeaks, and Cassin's Finch.
Good Birding,
Jack Bushong,
Louisville, CO
