Today I went for a walk along my favorite local patch, the first time this month after getting back from my birding blitz in California. The main interesting thing I got to watch was a group of three magpies harassing and mobbing a red-tailed hawk in a tree. Not to usual along this river, but while watching this I heard the call of a Red-tailed Hawk call and looking over I saw two more hawks come swooping into to the tree and scattering the magpies. I have not seen this kind of behavior before. I wonder if this was a matted pair with this years now grown chick who was being harassed and the parents where the two that came in. After scattering the magpies the three hawks flew off together. And shortly latter the magpies came back to the tree like nothing happen. It was an interesting show to watch. Along with that the other highlight was five great scaups. Here is my checklist from ebird for the two areas I birded if you are interested,
