[cobirds] Red Crossbill - Cheesman Park (Denver, CO)

This morning, around 7:30 a.m., I came upon a flock of about 16 red crossbill feeding in the spruce in the northeast edge of Cheesman Park. The birds did not appear to stay long, moving out toward the southwest edge. My dog and I failed to relocate them there on our way out of the park, but we did not do a thorough search.

If you intend to go looking for the crossbill, please know that there is a race today in Denver that cuts through the park. As of this morning, 6th and 7th avenues were inaccessible, there was a steady stream of runners through the park, and there was generic arena rock blaring out of a loudspeaker. The roads into the park were also closed; I suspect they will remain so until the early-to-mid afternoon, but I have not been able to find information about the race online. Probably the best bet for entering Cheesman is to park on a road outside of the park and walk in. The northern edge is probably better.

Also at the park was a house wren. The wren was singing, from the Botanic Garden side of things.
