Re: [cobirds] Digest for cobirds@googlegroups.com - 6 updates in 5 topics

Does anyone know if the $9 use fee at Crow Valley is per car or per person??? That will certainly curtail my visits.

This is a slightly delayed report for Sunday; today (Monday) was our day
off.

Sunday was warmer, and thus slower in terms of birds. These hot days, we
are also closing some nets early. But we banded 19 birds of 9 species,
plus recaught 10 birds banded earlier this season. Here are the 19 new
birds:

Mourning Dove 2
Downy Woodpecker 1
Traill's Flycatcher 1
House Wren 2
Marsh Wren 1 (FOS)
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 8
Chipping Sparrow 2

Here is some info about our experience at the new location for the first
two weeks for our three most commonly caught early season species:

Wilson's Warbler - A total of 95 compared to the 5-year average of 90
Yellow Warbler - A total of 22 compared to the 5-year average of 89
House Wren - A total of 26 compared to the 5-year average of 43

So, the Wilson's, migrating through, seem to be doing okay, but our two
major summer residents are quite low.

(For most other species, it is too early to start talking about results -
we will share more info as more species arrive in useful numbers.)

We are banding Tuesday through Sunday mornings (closed Mondays). There is
a public session most weekday mornings from 7:30-8:30, and three time slots
on weekends, at 8, 9, and 10 a.m. There is a $7 fee and registration is
required – click here

Hi all!
It is good to be back in Colorado! Today was the first day of banding. It
was only an abbreviated banding day as we had to clear and set up our ten
nets. The first bird of the season was a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. That was a
surprise to me. We banded 17 birds of eleven species.
*17 New Banded Birds*
Ruby-crowned Kinglet- 1
Wilson's Warbler- 4
American Redstart- 2
Western Flycatcher- 1
Willow Flycatcher- 2
Western Wood-pewee-1
House Wren-1

No Recaptures

The Banding station will be open Monday - Saturday Sunrise until @11 AM
through October 4th. Please stop by if you are in the area. Be sure to sign
up on the Aiken Audubon Website (www.aikenaudubon.com) for gaining
permission to the ranch.

Have a good day,

Maybe people already know this, but Crow Valley Campground now requires a
$9 day use fee to go birding, not even to camp. They only accept cash.

Last week out at Blanca Wetlands I found a dark phase adult Parasitic
Jaeger on one of the ponds. It was a bird I have expected in my 40 years of
birding here and it finally came to fruition. The bird was close and gave
many opportunities to photograph it. I based my call on the bill length and
tip (Kauffman guide), and the white primary shafts on 4-6 primary feathers.
I knew what to look for since in 2020, I submitted a report for the San
Luis Valley first Long-tailed Jaeger (approved). This will be the first SLV
Parasitic Jaeger, pending approval of CBRC. I ran the pics by others who
confirmed my ID. You can view pics in eBird, Blanca Wetlands post.
