[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Station Report, 9/1/24

This is a slightly delayed report for Sunday; today (Monday) was our day off.

Sunday was warmer, and thus slower in terms of birds.  These hot days, we are also closing some nets early.  But we banded 19 birds of 9 species, plus recaught 10 birds banded earlier this season.  Here are the 19 new birds:

Mourning Dove 2
Downy Woodpecker 1
Traill's Flycatcher 1
House Wren 2
Marsh Wren 1 (FOS)
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 8
Chipping Sparrow 2

Here is some info about our experience at the new location for the first two weeks for our three most commonly caught early season species:

Wilson's Warbler - A total of 95 compared to the 5-year average of 90
Yellow Warbler - A total of 22 compared to the 5-year average of 89
House Wren - A total of 26 compared to the 5-year average of 43

So, the Wilson's, migrating through, seem to be doing okay, but our two major summer residents are quite low.

(For most other species, it is too early to start talking about results - we will share more info as more species arrive in useful numbers.)

We are banding Tuesday through Sunday mornings (closed Mondays).  There is a public session most weekday mornings from 7:30-8:30, and three time slots on weekends, at 8, 9, and 10 a.m. There is a $7 fee and registration is required – click here to register!

Let me know if you have any questions,
